LBGTQ HISTORY OF OLYMPIA

The Queer Space Reclamation Project works to support, empower and educate LGBTQ people and communities through the recognition, reclamation, and promotion of queer spaces.

The Current Goal of the Queer Space Reclamation Project is to uncover the queer history of Olympia, WA. There is a large and strong queer community in the city but the history is nearly invisible. Providing a way for the community and individuals to access the unspoken and unpublished history of Queer Olympia. For younger generations knowing one's community history can open roads for greater connection to the land, connect us to our elders, and provide pride and greater understanding of our community. For older generation recognizing their legacies, work, and struggles must be done and will inform the work we all wish to better.

Having pride in our genders and sexuality is not enough, we must have pride in our home, our community, and our past.

If you or someone you know would like to contribute to telling the tale of Queer Olympia email Karama at queer.nation.my.nation@gmail.com.
